Every Day We Postpone Our Dreams Is a Day We Won’t Get to Relive

As nurses and physician assistants, you give your time, energy, and hearts to others every single day. You’re trained to respond to everyone else’s needs—patients, coworkers, families—often leaving your own dreams waiting in the wings.

But here’s something we rarely say out loud: Every day we postpone our dreams is a day we won’t get to relive.

Time is the one thing we don’t get a second chance at.

You Know How Precious Time Is

You’ve seen what happens when people think they have more time than they actually do. You’ve held hands in final moments. You’ve heard the regrets.

That firsthand perspective should be fuel, not fear. You know how fleeting and fragile life can be.

So why keep pushing your dreams to “someday”?

The “Someday” Trap

For high-impact advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants, someday often looks like:

  • Once I pay off my student loans …

  • Once the kids are older …

  • Once I’m not so tired …

  • Once I retire

But what if someday never comes? Or worse, what if it does, and you’re too exhausted to enjoy it?

Every day you delay is a day of life you’re spending on autopilot.

Dreams Don’t Need Permission

Your dream doesn’t have to be huge. Maybe it’s:

  • Working fewer hours so you can be home for dinner

  • Traveling while you’re still young and able

  • Starting a side gig or business you’re passionate about

  • Changing specialties or stepping away from nursing altogether

Whatever it is, you don’t need permission. You need a plan—and the belief that your dreams are just as important as your responsibilities.

Start with These Steps

1. Define It
What’s the dream you keep putting off? Be honest with yourself. Maybe it’s been whispering to you for years. Maybe you’ve never dared to say it out loud.

2. Name the Cost
What is postponing it really costing you? Financial confidence? Energy? Time with your family? A version of yourself you miss?

3. Make a Plan
This is where financial life planning comes in. It’s not just about retirement. It’s about aligning your money with your values so that you can pivot, build flexibility, and reclaim time and energy now, not just “someday.”

4. Take a Step
Even a small move forward—starting a savings goal, exploring a new role, taking a day off to think—can begin the shift. Progress doesn’t have to be dramatic. It just has to start.

Final Thought

You only get this life once. Every day that you put your dreams on hold, you’re giving away a day you’ll never get back.

If you're ready to stop waiting and start building a more intentional, flexible life, I’m here to help.

That’s the work I do: guiding APRNs and PAs like you through a life-planning process that helps bring clarity, confidence, and breathing room.

Because your dreams deserve a timeline.

And that timeline should start now.
